Last weekend, our older daughter had a friend over for the afternoon, and as we got ready to send her friend home, they asked if she could spend the night. Since it was Sunday, we immediately said "No," but we indicated that we'd think about it for the next weekend. So, after a week's worth of negotiation, she and her friend agreed on a third friend to invite, and plans were made for a sleep over on Saturday night.

The third friend came over about noon, and spent the afternoon at our house, and the other friend showed up about 5:30. The girls all seemed to have a good time. They played games, watched movies, ate ice cream, made a LOT of noise... For the most part, I tried to stay out of their way, as much to preserve my sanity as anything.

The thing is, why is this called a sleep over?? There was precious little sleeping! The girls only finally settled down around 10pm and were up again before 7am on Sunday morning. My daughter was so tired that she took a two hour nap on Sunday afternoon (and she never naps). Everyone seemed to have a good time, and my daughter did help clean up yesterday, so I'm guessing we'll be doing more of these. I'm just thinking that I might have to spend the night at my office next time! :o)

What's the good of having a sleep over if you don't stay up late and exhaust yourself?!

10 pm?? Your daughter is young, so you got off easy! Just wait until she is 14 like ours, and they stay up until 3 am raising the kitchen and GIGGLING!! ACK!! :-)

Ooops. That was supposed to be *raiding* the kitchen. Although they could raise it, too, with the ruckus they make. And go through a lot of ice cream and Hot Pockets and chips and sodas and.......

Heh, just wait until they have a "Johnny Depp film festival" and are all mooning and swooning in your living room! And painting each other's nails godawful shades like black, and ice blue frost, and electric lime.

My daughter called them "midnight feasts" and they were consumed with much hilarity.

If I dared poke my nose in, I'd catch a glimpse of every spare mattress and pillow and blanket on the floor, another layer of girls on top, and a layer of giggles above that.

And things flying in the direction of my nose to get me to withdraw it!

Just stock up on snacks and things that need minimal preparation, close the door and stick socks in ears.

And make a point of noting who attended, so that the sleepover may be repaid in full at a later date and you get a nice quiet evening and night to yourselves!

It all evens out.

Sounds like a successful sleepover. My daughter (8) had one here a while ago, and they were up till midnight.
