I think I'd like to just challenge everyone to count and record one blessing, just one, in their journal. Maybe in the reading we will stack each one blessing upon the other in our hearts - even if they are not our own - and remember, we are alive, we're here - maybe miserable - but here. And that sure as heck beats the alternative.

When I stop to think about it, I find my life filled with so many blessings that it becomes hard to single out just one to list here. Perhaps because my brothers are now both survivors of failed marriages, I think I'll focus on my marriage. I'm blessed to find myself in a strong and stable marriage. My wife not only tolerates my idiosyncrasies, but seemingly even appreciates them. We enjoy each other's company (most of the time), have enough in common to draw us together and sufficient differences to keep from smothering each other. We do fight and get frustrated, but we always manage to work through our issues and resolving the conflicts seems to just draw us closer together. A good marriage takes work, and I'm blessed to have a woman who wants to work at it with me.

You Are Bert

Extremely serious and a little eccentric, people find you loveable - even if you don't love them!

You are usually feeling: Logical - you rarely let your emotions rule you

You are famous for: Being smart, a total neat freak, and maybe just a little evil

How you life your life: With passion, even if your odd passions (like bottle caps and pigeons) are baffling to others

My wife and daughter are convinced that I'm weird, so I couldn't resist a chance to quantify my weirdness!

You Are 40% Weird

Normal enough to know that you're weird...
But too damn weird to do anything about it!

One of the ways I torture my daughters (yes, that is my prerogative as a father!), is to scramble the lyrics to nursery rhymes. I usually can get all the right words in, but not necessarily in the proper order. One of the first I did this with was "Jack and Jill":

Jill and Jack
Up a hill went
A pail of water to fetch.

Down Jack fell
And his crown broke
And tumbling after came Jill.

Here's another:

Diddle hey diddle
The fiddle and the cat
Over the moon jumped the cow
Laughed the dog little such sport to see
And away with the dish ran the spoon.

My daughters HATE it when I do this, and protest loudly, which makes it that much more fun...

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open it to page 161.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around and look for the coolest book you can find. Use what's actually next to you.

I've been enjoying everyone's favorite paintings, but try as I might, I can't think of a specific painting that I can say is my favorites. Heck, I'm having trouble thinking of all that many specific paintings, period! Somehow I just don't have a great depth of experience with or knowledge about paintings. I'm not sure why that is, since I enjoy strolling through a museum looking at the paintings, but much of the subtlety is lost on me.

Photography, on the other hand, is something I know and understand. I'm purely a hobby photographer who manages to sometimes get lucky and come up with an impressive shot. But I appreciate the challenges that go into capturing a scene, and I have great respect for those that do it well.

So, inspired by everyone's favorite painting, I thought I'd share one of my all time favorite photographs, which is VERY famous, and should be quite familiar to you all. My favorite image )

Tsk, tsk!

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In November I helped [livejournal.com profile] yokospungeon hide a body (-173 points). In March I got in line at the supermarket at the same time as someone else and I didn't yield (-8 points). In May I put gum in [livejournal.com profile] martip's hair (-12 points). Last Wednesday [livejournal.com profile] jendudley and I robbed a bank (-50 points). Last Tuesday [livejournal.com profile] momczuk and I donated clothes to the needy (11 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-232 points). For Christmas I deserve a lump of coal!

Sincerely,
resqgeek

Formerly having never travelled though time, [livejournal.com profile] resqgeek (Adam Sandler) is on the verge of a discovery that could change the world! Fourteen minutes later, nothing will ever be the same As that is happening, [livejournal.com profile] skyring (George Clooney) and [livejournal.com profile] antof9 (Catherine Zeta-Jones) do their best to erase the dramatic consequences from the public consciousness. Montages and spy music set the scene for a rollercoaster ride of a film with a deadly twist!
