Its that time of year again. We finally received all our tax forms from our various financial institutions, so it was time for me to sit down and figure out our income taxes. I was hoping that they would be substantially simpler than last year, when we had the sale of a rental property to contend with. Last year, I used the fillable PDF versions of the IRS forms to file, but I remember being annoyed that I couldn't save the completed forms. Well, this year, the IRS has corrected that issue, and I was able to complete all my forms electronically, print them and burn them to a CD for archiving! Very cool. Even better, we're going to get a pretty nice refund. So, I've got my 2004 taxes finished, ready to mail tomorrow.

Unfortunately, in the process of completing my 2004 taxes, I came across an issue in our 2003 taxes that we need to correct. So, today, I spend the afternoon recalculating last year's VERY complicated taxes, so that I can file an amended return for 2003. I've never done an amended return before, so this has been a learning experience. I think I've got everything figured out, and I should be able to complete all the forms this week so that we can (finally, I hope) finish dealing with our rental property.
