I knew the weather was simply too good to last. Today was overcast and windy, clearly signaling the end of the beautiful sunny weather here. By the end of the day, it was snowing on the top of the mountain, with freezing rain at the base.

The older daughter learned a new trick today, as you can see in the video. She had a blast turning pirouettes on her skis as she went down the slopes. She started on some relatively flat runs, but eventually was even doing it on some moderate pitches. I'm not sure that it qualifies as a useful skiing skill, but it is kind of fun to watch.

Our package this year included VIP Golden lift tickets that have some extra perks attached to them. One of them was a champagne (root beer for the kids) reception at the end of the ski day. We gathered there, along with another family we've met and had a lovely chat with some of the resort management. Unfortunately, the Olympic skier that was scheduled to join us was off to the X Games and they couldn't locate a replacement. However, the staff took our number and will try to arrange a meeting with Billy Kidd, director of skiing here at Steamboat and silver medalist in the 1964 Winter Olympics. How cool is that?
