Our trip to West Virginia went very well. The ski resort had plenty of snow, nicely groomed, and almost no lift lines. Our oldest daughter picked up where she left off last year, and was soon zipping down the slopes. By the middle of the day on Monday, she decided she was bored with the easy runs and wanted to try something more challenging. I began taking her on some of the easier intermediate slopes, but by the time we left on Tuesday, she had skied almost everything on the mountain. She wasn't intimidated by the steepness or iciness of the more advanced runs, and she did a great job of controlling her speed and direction on all the runs. I'm definitely going to have to pay for some lessons, though that will probably make her a better skier than me!

Our youngest started out with a bit of hesitance, and we had to hold her between our skis for many of the early runs. As the day progressed on Monday, she became more comfortable, and was willing to ski next to us, as long as we held her hand. By Tuesday afternoon, she was skiing on her own on the easiest runs and definitely did not want any help.

Late Monday afternoon, my wife took the girls snow tubing, so I had time to make a few runs for myself. I had fun, but my legs were tired from holding my speed down all day to ski with my daughters, so I wasn't in my best form. I got a couple of better runs in on Tuesday, when my older daughter started to exert her independence. "Go on Dad! I'll meet you at the bottom," she'd say. So I would cut loose, let my skis run and enjoy the ride!

I also released a few books. I left several in the lounge area at the lodge, and watched a lady pick up one of them and begin reading it. Hopefully she'll make a journal entry eventually. So far, my only journalled catch from the trip was the one I left in the ski rental shop when I returned my daughters' rental skis on Tuesday. Not only did I get a new member, but I seemed to have picked the perfect book!

All-in-all, it was satisfying trip, if a bit wearying. Now, I have to try to get some work done.
I just came across this Blog entry which simply made me *shudder*. This is why I believe that it is impossible to underestimate the power of human stupidity. Anyone care to wager on whether he's using a GFI (ground-fault-interrupted) power outlet?
