Happy Australia DayOkay, so Australia Day has been over for hours down under, but it is still the 26th of January here in Colorado. After the showing the Aussies made here last year, we were disappointed the find very few visible signs of celebration around the mountain this year. There was an Australian flag flying by one of the lifts, and one ski instructor was wearing the flag as a cape, but otherwise, it was a much quieter Australia Day here this year.

The weather may have been a factor. The temperatures dropped significantly today and continued to fall through the day. It was the first day we had to take a break just to warm up, and we quit a bit before the lifts closed because the girls were cold.

Meeting Billy KiddHowever, the highlight of the day was the phone call about 2pm inviting us to visit Billy Kidd. We made our way to the base of the mountain and up to the resort offices. Billy asked the girls if they were practicing for the Olympics, signed Steamboat posters for them and posed for pictures. I'm pretty sure the girls were thrilled to meet an Olympic medalist (America's first medalist in alpine skiing).

One more day of skiing, and then we head home.

Ahhh, we're about as much into flag-waving in the US, as Americans are over here.

Billy Kidd looks thrilled to pose with your girls. Bet it made his day!

How nice for the girls, and for you! I'm sure they'll never forget it. Sounds like a fine vacation. And you may come home to snow in VA.
