A Sampson County, NC, high school ban on clothing decorated with any flag patterns was rescinded this week, after a student was barred from wearing a stars and stripes patterned skirt on 11 September. The principal issued the ban in response to incidents last school year involving students wearing various flags. In a letter to the school, the ACLU pointed out that this ban likely violated the First Amendment, as an infringement of the right of free expression. The rule was rescinded by the county school Superintendent on Wednesday.
