Today was chilly, but not nearly as cold as I feared in might be. We slept in this morning, barely arising in time for the complimentary breakfast our hotel offers. As a result, it was about 10:30 before we got to the Visitor's Center at Colonial Williamsburg. We spent the next several hours wandering the historical area, touring several homes and the Governor's Palace, as well as a number of the craftsmen's shops. The shops were especially interesting, with period costumed craftsmen working on their various crafts and explaining what they were doing and answering questions.
I think the girls had fun, especially with the (many) actors who took the time to talk to them on their level. They enjoyed learning about what life would have been like for children their age in the colonial period. The actor at the saddlery shop was really in period, aghast that we weren't raising proper young ladies. They should be in dresses and should be learning to ride horses side-saddle, rather than astride! We're such terrible parents...
About 3:30, the girls were starting to get cold, so we headed back to the Visitor's Center, where we watched the movie they show about Williamsburg, before heading out to get dinner. We then headed to the hotel, where the girls went swimming, and took showers. Now they want me to read to them before bed, so I'll have to sign off until tomorrow.
