Down under connectivity

Well, I've received word from all the hotels regarding their internet access facilities. While they all provide some sort of internet access, none of them provide complimentary broadband access. The only free access is dial-up, though phone charges would still apply. After researching the prices, it looks like its going to be significantly less expensive to use internet cafes than to pay the exorbitant rates the hotels are asking. While I would have preferred to bring and use my laptop from the comfort of my hotel room, I have to admit that not having to lug the laptop halfway around the world is a bit of a relief.

I finally bought myself a digital SLR camera, which should be delivered today or tomorrow, and I already have a 1GB SD memory card for it, so I'm looking forward to trying to capture some of the magnificent scenery I'm expecting to see on this trip. I need to find a small backpack to carry the camera and accessories in while I'm skiing, but that shouldn't be too difficult. With any luck, I should have some more gorgeous photos for my office walls when I return.

is Pete ([livejournal.com profile] skyring on your friends list? I wonder if Internet cafes are as common there as in Europe. I'm with you -- no laptop carrying, if I can help it :)

and. . . .remembering the waterfall pic you posted, you will surely get some nice ones to market :)

I hadn't written anything in livejournal for a long time (actually I was only there because a former college roommate landed some cryptic entries there); anyway, although I've never communicated (or been in a ring or anything) with you in bookcrossing, but have seen your name in the forums....

I don't know if you've had me on your friends list for a long time or what, but I'll add you to mine - looks like you found several BCer's who are also on LJ.

Good luck with the vacation down under....
