Wow! How'd it get to be Tuesday already? Its been a hectic few days, and while I could be off sightseeing right now, I've got plans for dinner, and just want to relax for a bit.

I took Friday off from work to help my brother move in Baltimore. The lease on his apartment expired on Thursday, but his new landlord wouldn't let him move in until 01 August. His old landlord gave him an extra day to move out, but he had to turn in the keys by 5pm to avoid being charged for the extra day.

In someways it was an easy move. The new apartment was in a building on the next block, backing up to the building next to his old apartment. So we didn't need to load (and unload) a truck. Everything went out the back door of the old building, through the alley and into the new one. Unfortunately, both apartments were on the ninth floor, so the move involved lots of waiting for elevators. On top of that, the box spring for their bed didn't fit in the elevator in the old building, requiring it to be carried down nine flights of stairs. Thankfully, it fit in the freight elevator in the new building.

It was a hot sticky day, just to make the whole process more uncomfortable, and the available parking was limited to two hours, requiring me to move our car regularly. Not that moving it kept me from getting a parking ticket. The ticket indicated that I'd been parked for three hours, but was issued only about an hour after I had moved it. Apparently, I hadn't moved it far enough to erase the chalk mark on the tire and was unlucky enough to have the mark line up where it was visible when I re-parked. I now owe the great city of Baltimore $42 for a parking infraction I didn't commit.

After we got everything moved to the new apartment, my father and I helped install a window air conditioning unit, as the apartment does not have central air conditioning. My brother ordered pizza, and we relaxed briefly before we called it a day and headed back down towards Washington and home. We were all tired and sweaty, but at least we got my brother successfully moved into his new home.
