Control of the Senate now rests entirely on the outcome of the race between Sen. George Allen and his challenger Jim Webb here in Virginia. The vote counts for this election shows that the two candidates are separated by only a few thousand votes out of 2.3 million votes cast, with Webb leading. Allen must win re-election for the Republicans to retain control of the Senate (by virtue of Vice-President Cheney's tie breaking vote), so its a sure bet that Allen will demand a recount, and the outcome of this election won't be known for sure for weeks. If this ends up in the courts, expect Virginia to replace Florida in all the election joke punchlines!
