After our close encounter with the baby skunks we headed over to the condo my dad's older brother had rented for his family's stay. They had a balcony overlooking a local ski/golf resort, where the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra was set up for an evening concert. They played a selection of music from "Star Wars" and other works by John Williams. The concert started with the Canadian National Anthem, which reminded us all that it was 01 July...Canada Day (Happy Birthday to our friends to the north!). The music was a bit hard to hear at times, as the stage faced away from us, and traffic on the intervening road sometimes masked the orchestra, but hey, we hadn't paid for the concert. The final piece was the "1812 Overture" which cued the fireworks. The balcony turned out to be a perfect place to watch the pyrotechnic display, and I set up my tripod and snapped about a hundred shots. (I've posted a half dozen or so of the best shots on Flickr.) During the fireworks, a couple of my uncles were competing to outdo each other with bad puns, including this gem: Do pyrotechnic engineers suffer from burn out?
