I was listening to the radio this morning, and during the news there was a item that caught my attention. They related a story about a fire somewhere in Maryland, involving two fire departments that apparently each felt that they should be solely responsible for putting out. According to the story, they got into a brawl, which ended when one department stole the turnout gear of the other department and sabotaged their air packs. An investigation is pending.
Now, I've just spent a bit of time searching for a print article about this incident, without success, so I don't have any further details about this incident. But I must say that I am absolutely flabbergasted that these firefighters were more concerned about their department pride than they were about the property (and maybe lives) they are supposed to protect. This behavior is shameful, and I certainly hope that the investigation results in some severe disciplinary actions for the firefighters involved.
