A week ago, I was sitting at my desk at work, checking the snow reports for the ski resorts here in Western NY. I was encouraged to find them reporting a base of 14-40 inches (34-100cm) of snow, with several inches of new snow in recent days. Most runs were open and the conditions looked great for a couple of days of skiing this week.

Fast forward to today. The temperature was 38F (3C) when we climbed out of bed this morning, and it rained yesterday afternoon and overnight. More rain is forecast for today, and while the resorts are still reporting an adequate base of snow to ski on, the conditions are sloppy (to say the least). We were hoping to ski today, but have decided to wait and see how things look tomorrow. The temperature is forecast to drop back below freezing tonight and the winds should shift out of the northwest, which should bring some lake effect snow off Lake Erie. If all of this does take place, the conditions tomorrow should be better. *crosses fingers*

We had an uneventful trip up on Monday, arriving by mid-afternoon. My grandparents and cousins came over on Tuesday, and my mother made dinner to celebrate my birthday (a day late). Yesterday, we headed up to Buffalo and took the girls to the IMAX theater to see The Polar Express in 3D on the BIG screen. An awesome way to see a terrific movie!

Depending on conditions and such, we will be headed back home either on Saturday or Sunday. Mrs. Qgeek has to work Sunday night, so if we wait until Sunday, we will need to make a very early start, so that any traffic delays won't make her late.
