Last night at dinner, the older geeklet had a tooth hanging on by the last little bit. She was having trouble getting a good grip on it to pull it out, so when it didn't come out during the meal, I helped her pluck the tooth from her mouth. Right before she went to bed, I confirmed that she had put the tooth under her pillow for the tooth fairy, which she had. Of course, by the time I went to bed a few hours later, I had completely forgotten about the tooth...so unless Mrs. Qgeek remembered it, the tooth fairy failed to show up last night.
I remembered all this at lunch time today, after my wife left to take the girls to the zoo for the afternoon, which means I haven't been able to check with her to find out a) if she actually remembered last night or b) how upset our daughter is that the tooth fairy missed her. I've spent all afternoon feeling guilty. Such a simple thing, another childhood milestone, and I completely dropped the ball...
I've been trying to come up with explanations that might make sense to a seven year old. Maybe the tooth fairy was busy trying to help people along the Gulf Coast? Somehow that just doesn't seem right. Maybe my wife will have some ideas when I can finally talk to her.
