The city is winding up for the Big, Historic Inauguration on Tuesday. We were out and about today, doing some final errands and the traffic was unusually heavy in unusual places. We also noticed that the programmable signs were all indicating that the HOV restrictions (High-Occupancy-Vehicle; when the restrictions are in place, certain lanes can only be used by vehicles with a minimum number of occupants) were going into effect at 4pm this afternoon. HOV restrictions on a weekend? With no indication of an ending time? They must be expecting one SERIOUS influx of traffic coming our way.

All things considered, it seems like a great time to get out of town. Avoid the traffic and the crowds, preserve a bit of our sanity. Lucky for us, back in September, we booked a ten day vacation to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. We head to the airport in about twelve hours, to begin this year's ski adventure. The packing is almost completely done, and now we can relax, get a good night's sleep and skip out of town before the insanity really sets in.

As I did last year, I'll try to post at least a brief entry every day to let you know how things are going.
