Well, I'm back in West Virginia again. The girls have the week off for spring break, and my wife and I decided to bring them back to the mountains for a couple more days of skiing before spring takes away all the snow.

Yesterday, we went to my M-in-L's for the day. She and my wife had a project to work on, and we hadn't been up to visit in quite a while, so we decided to spend the night and head out from her house this morning. Yesterday was a beautiful early spring day, temperature about 60F and just enough wind to allow me to go out with the girls and fly kites for a couple hours. Its been a long time since I flew a kite, and my daughters' enthusiasm was very contagious. We ran out of daylight long before any of us were ready to quit.

This morning we got up early to head for the mountains. It had rained overnight, and the temperature had dropped about 10 degrees. I was a little worried about the ski conditions, as 50F tends to make slush of the snow, but it turned out that I didn't have to worry. During the last hour of our three hour drive here the temps dropped rapidly as we gained altitude. We're now over 3200 feet and the temps are below freezing.

We arrived early enough to ski for about four hours this afternoon. The sky was a slate gray overcast, and a chilling breeze blew all afternoon, but the snow conditions were excellent. My oldest daughter continues to show remarkable improvement in both her skiing technique and her confidence. Next winter I'm definitely going to have to put her in lessons (even though she'll probably come out of them skiing better than me). Our younger daughter also picked up where we left off a month and a half ago, and was proudly skiing the easy runs all on her own.

After the lifts closed for the evening, we headed to the lodge where we took a short dip in the indoor swimming pool to thaw out, ordered a pizza, and put the girls down for the night. I decided to take a little time to check my e-mail and update my LJ and BC stuff. I released a book in the ski rental shop when we arrived, and it was caught and journaled before I got a chance to get online. I also just released a book here in the lodge, which just got picked up by someone passing through the lobby. Now, I feel my energy reserves fading, so its probably time to head back to the room and crash for the night.
