Hard to say why it isn't popular. Perhaps your average baseball fan is a hidebound conservative, brought up on the Yankees, the Red Sox and the Brooklyn Dodgers, all with their glorious traditions and followers. Anything else, even international competition, is strictly minor league in comparison.
