Memorial Day
Yesterday, we hosted our annual Memorial Day cook-out party. We has about 85 people at the house, with lots of food, music and conversation. There seemed to be a record number of kids this year, and at one point there were 22 (!!) kids in the swimming pool at the same time. Not quite as big a crowd as last year, but still a fun afternoon.
Had a bit of wildlife excitement after everyone went home and we were cleaning up. I was collecting the trash when our cat came streaking into the year from the neighbors' with a big raccoon hot on its trail! Our dog jumped into the fray and managed to chase off the raccoon, and then (a bit surprisingly) came right back when we called her off. No injuries to any of the animals, but it was a bit surprising to find myself that close to a raccoon here in the suburbs, tight up against the Capital Beltway.
