The Flip-Flop Wars

From today's Washington Post, Ruth Marcus's column discusses the annual battle of the footwear in her household. Its an amusing article, but it also highlights the trend towards casual wear at any time, in any place. I'm sure there are similar battles looming in my future as my daughters approach their pre-teen, middle-school years. I just hope I can wisely choose which battles are worth fighting...

I don't know what the fashion is in other parts of the country, but the girls here have taken to wearing flip-flops to their semi-formal dances (Homecoming and Winter Weekend). I am lucky, for I have taught my daughter that the correct pair of shoes can make or break an entire outfit. (It also helps that I own 9 pairs of shoes, not counting my flip-flops or sandals.)

I was appalled this past winter to see the girls in their fancy dresses and FLIP-FLOPS.

I am one that hopes this trend ends soon.

And, I agree with rangermom, choose your battles wisely!
