Can I just say that I can so relate to the father? Actually I abhor flip-flops. Every summer for the past few years I wish that that was it, thatthe fashion for these awful things has stopped. I mean apart from being uncomfortable and unhealthy for your feet, the sound they make is just awful! Bah! It's shoes for the bathroom or beach. Not an everyday shoe. And the sooner it gets out of fashion again, the better.
